Last week the Member for Cook, Cynthia Lui took the opportunity to visit the Mareeba Animal Refuge to meet with staff and to have a look at the facilities.
“The Mareeba Animal Refuge is an essential facility which plays a vital role in providing care for stray and abandoned animals in need of a loving home,” Ms Lui said.
“Jennifer Walsh who manages the refuge does an amazing job and I know she is keen to find long term loving homes for the animals that the Refuge shelters.”
A small army of volunteers support the operations of the Refuge, walking the dogs and assisting with cleaning the cats’ enclosures.
“But I know that they would love to have more volunteers,” Ms Lui said.
“Volunteering is so rewarding and people can assist for as little or as much time as they can.”
The refuge is run by a Management Committee, Friends of the Animals Inc and volunteers who want to serve on the committee are always welcome.
“Mareeba can be proud of this facility and I know they are because they are giving generously to the Refuge.”
“I strongly encourage community members to continue to give bigheartedly to the Mareeba Animal Refuge. If you would like to volunteer or donate, drop by the refuge on Hickling Avenue, Mareeba or visit: www.mareebaanimalrefuge.com.au”
