The Palaszczuk Government is encouraging Queenslanders who have a passion for making the state’s roads safer to apply for funding.
The 2018 round of the Community Road Safety Grants scheme is now open, and community groups, councils and schools are encouraged to apply.
Member for Cook Cynthia Lui said the grants would help local organisations make our roads safer and local projects run by community members are a great way to do this,” Ms Lui said.
“I encourage organisations to get together and brainstorm innovative ideas to address local road safety issues.”
Ms Lui said grants of up to $20,000 were available for short-term projects.
“Longer-term funding for up to three years is available to deliver road safety education to senior students or support pre-learner or novice drivers obtaining licenses,” she said.
The Community Road Safety Grants scheme has contributed to 298 initiatives, including bicycle and child restraint education, resources and training, heavy vehicle fatigue initiatives, road safety education and learner driver mentoring programs.
The Queensland Government’s Road Safety Strategy 2015-21 calls on everyone in the community – government, business and citizens – to take action, whenever and wherever, to improve safety on our roads.
Applications for Community Road Safety Grants close on Friday 8 June. For more information, visit www.qld.gov.au/community/community-organisations-volunteering/funding-grants-resources/community-road-safety-grants
