The Tourism Industry Development Minister, Kate Jones has announced the successful events which will receive support as part of the latest round of Tourism and Events Queensland’s Destination Events Program (QDEP).
Taste Port Douglas has been allocated $15 000 to assist it to stage the very popular event in September this year.
“Events play an important role in driving tourism and supporting the local economy in Queensland,” Ms Jones said.
“We are delighted to be supporting a number of events in Tropical North Queensland, including the Yarrabah Band Festival, Tastes of the Tablelands, Cairns Amateurs, Taste Port Douglas, Crocodile Trophy, Cairns Tropical Pride as well as a newly funded event - the Gulf Country Frontier Days Festival.
“These events are huge drawcards for visitors, celebrating our enviable lifestyle, idyllic destinations and unbeatable hospitality.”
The Member for Cook, Cynthia Lui said the funding announced today will assist to ensure that Taste Port Douglas will continue to be recognized as Far North Queensland’s premier food, beverage and restaurant festival.
“On 15 and 16 September, Port Douglas will be transformed into a foodie’s paradise. We will experience fantastic dinners, a number of tastings, chef demonstrations and master classes,” she said.
“We know how valuable major events are when it comes to driving visitors to Tropical North Queensland – that’s why today’s announcement is so important.
“The Palaszczuk Government is committed to investing in tourism to support events and bring more content to Queensland.
Tourism Industry Development Minister Kate Jones said that since 2015, the Queensland Destination Events Program has invested more than $5.8 million in regional events throughout Queensland, with the It’s live in Queensland events calendar now worth $780 million to our state’s economy.
“Event organisers can use the funding to assist with event marketing costs, strategic plan development, staff hire and event infrastructure,” Ms Jones said. “Tourism is a $25.4 billion industry in Queensland and the government recognises the enormous impact successful events can have on a community.”
Applications for Round 10 of QDEP funding are open until May 30 for events held between December 2018 and January 2020.
