STATE Member for Cook Cynthia Lui said typical of Jarrod Bleijie to ignore one very important word in his statement - Accessibility.
The relocation of the Cook Electorate office from Mareeba to Cairns is estimated to cost $71,708. A small price to pay for increased accessibility for all constituents of Cook.
My decision to relocate my Electorate Office from Mareeba to Cairns is based on having an office space that is accessible and inclusive for everyone, no matter where you live in Cook.
My electorate covers almost 290,000 square kilometres of Far North Queensland and consists of 14 local governments, including 27 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, one town authority and three small townships. This is not a decision I made lightly.
Cairns is the central hub for FNQ. Residents from the Cook electorate travel to Cairns for a wide range of reasons, include but not limited to; health, education, sporting activities, business etc.
Having an office space in Cairns means that I can iron out challenges relating to disability access, public transport and socioeconomic disadvantage for constituents getting to Mareeba.
I endeavour to hold regular mobile office in Mareeba following the actual office relocation.
