Blue Care Mareeba Garden Settlement provides accommodation and care for 64 residents and was recently the venue for a quiet cuppa, some good conversation and an exercise session for the Member for Cook, Cynthia Lui.
“I thought it was time to spend some quality time with the residents and staff of Mareeba Garden Settlement and I’m so glad I did,” Ms Lui said.
“There has been a focus on aged care services right across the country with the Federal Royal Commission, the Palaszczuk Government’s commitment to staffing ratios in Queensland Government run aged care and the very distressing events at Earl Haven on the Gold Coast.
“While the closure of Earl Haven was very stressful for all concerned, I thought it time to shine a light on the good work that many private not-for-profit facilities, including Blue Care Mareeba Garden Settlement are doing.
“My visit also follows the celebration of Aged Care Employees Day which was held just last month,” Ms Lui said.
Aged Care Employees Day is an official day to thank, honor, recognise and celebrate the hundreds of thousands of people who work in the aged care industry across Australia.
“I enjoyed meeting with Evelyn Beames and Mawn Young, both former Directors of Nursing who spoke passionately about how we can work together to build our communities for the future.
“I was impressed with how the residents joined in the exercise session – it just shows, it’s never too late to get moving.
“I want to thank the Manager, Nathan Williamson and the staff of Mareeba Gardens for making my visit such a memorable one,” she concluded.
