Cooktown’s action-packed three-week event showcasing 250 years of Shared History – Cooktown Expo 2020 has received a funding boost thanks to the Palaszczuk Government.
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said the $800,000 in funding would enable the region to put on a show worthy of its 250 years of proud history.
“From Cooktown to the Cape, this expo will be the biggest event the region has ever seen,” the Premier said.
“Delivered over three weekends starting from 17 July, the expo will showcase the region’s culture, history, food, art and environment as well as its wonderful and unique history.
“This is a wonderful opportunity to share our stories, acknowledge the past, recognise the present and celebrate our future.
Member for Cook Cynthia Lui said Cooktown 2020 would feature some of the region’s best known Indigenous and non-Indigenous performing artists.
“There will be Indigenous showcases featuring art, culture, fashion, language workshops, exhibitions, storytelling, tours and much more,” she said.
“The event will give a significant boost to the local economy and will be driven by strong partnerships across the region.
“The best help we can give our regional towns is to visit them and I encourage everyone to start planning a trip to the Far North for Cooktown Expo 2020.
