Member for Cook Cynthia Lui has commended Mossman State School and Mareeba State School for being awarded top honours at the 20th annual Showcase Awards for Excellence in Schools gala dinner.
Ms Lui said the Showcase Awards recognise, celebrate and reward excellence and innovation in teaching and leadership practice in Queensland state schools.
“Congratulations to both Mareeba State School who has just been awarded the Southern Cross University Showcase Board’s Choice Award and Mossman State School Queensland Teachers’ Union Showcase Award for Excellence in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Education at the Showcase Awards for Schools in Excellence,” Ms Lui said.
“As I go around and visit schools in my electorate, I am always impressed by the commitment of our principals and teachers to improve learning outcomes for students,” she said.
“The Showcase Awards are about recognising educational excellence and celebrating the many success stories of our Queensland state schools.
“I’m so pleased to see Mareeba and Mossman State Schools recognised at these awards and it certainly reiterates the high quality of education available to students right here in Cook.
“Mareeba and Mossman State Schools, along with the state and regional finalists, have shared in $177,500 of development grants funding.”
In 2019, more than 120 award submissions were received from schools and programs involving 67,000 students across Queensland.
The 2019 Showcase Awards are sponsored by Education Queensland International; Griffith University; Network 10; QSuper; Queensland Teachers’ Union; QUT; RemServ; Southern Cross University; Teachers Health and Teachers Mutual Bank.
