Far North Queensland Members of Parliament have welcomed the imminent arrival of new police officers to the region.
The new officers graduated from the Townsville Police Academy at a ceremony celebrating their successful completion of six months intensive training.
The Member for Cairns, Michael Healy said the 45 new officers would serve communities across Central, North and Far North Queensland.
“I especially welcome the 17 new officers heading to our region.
“They will provide further support to the great work the Queensland Police Service does keeping our communities safe.”
The Member for Mulgrave, Curtis Pitt, said there will be plenty more police officers heading to the region in the years to come.
“The Police Commissioner has stated that a minimum of 150 extra police officers will be deployed to our policing region by 2025.
“That commitment is part of the Palaszczuk Government’s fully funded plan to deliver an extra 2,025 police personnel across the state by 2025.”
The Member for Cook, Cynthia Lui said she had no doubt the new officers will go on to serve local communities with the honour and respect that is expected of Queensland’s world class police service.
“Congratulations to the graduating officers and we welcome you to our region.”
The Member for Barron River, Craig Crawford said many of the new officers had joined the QPS following careers in other industries including pathology, law and firefighting.
“The Queensland Government is committed to ensuring that our police service reflects the state’s diverse communities.
“Every one of the First Year Constables graduating today brings with them unique life experiences and perspectives, with officers joining the Service from across Australia and the globe, from Ipswich to Ireland.
“I wish each and every one of the new officers the very best for their policing careers ahead.”
