Member for Cook Cynthia Lui has hosted a community meeting calling for feedback following the announcement of $12 million for the Rocky Point Boat Ramp in Weipa.
Maritime Safety Queensland (MSQ) is in the early planning stage of Weipa's Rocky Point boat ramp upgrade project and are now seeking valuable community input.
The Miles Government has committed $12 million towards the Rocky Point boat ramp as part of the Queensland Transport and Roads Investment Program 2024-25.
MSQ, who owns the boat ramp facility, is leading the upgrade works in partnership with the facility manager, Weipa Town Authority (WTA).
In this early stage of the project, community feedback will be sought on an initial concept plan being presented at a Community Information Meeting this coming Monday at Weipa Bowls Club
The community’s valuable input will then feed into the development of a project scope to best meet community needs, within the available budget.
Following the meeting, written feedback is invited from Tuesday, 23 July until Tuesday, 20 August, 2024 to the MSQ team at .
Member for Cook Cynthia Lui said the meeting was is an important step forward.
"I’m excited to hear from the community on how we can help provide better facilities for them at the Rocky Point boat ramp," said Ms Lui.
Improving infrastructure like this is essential to ensure local boaties, fishermen and visitors to our beautiful region have the best possible facilities.

Minister for Transport and Main Roads Minister Bart Mellish said the $12 million committed would be used to upgrade the existing boat ramp in these early stages, and the community would have an opportunity to provide valuable insights.
“An important upgrade like this will service the Weipa community and surrounds well into the future," said Mr Mellish.
"My department continues to invest and improve marine infrastructure around the entire state which is a big win for locals."
