Member for Cook Cynthia Lui has congratulated Tagai State College – Ugar Campus Prep class for winning the Early Years category of the Teach Queensland Style Student Photo Competition.
“Tagai was recognised for a selfie-style photograph taken by a young boy standing in the ocean at low tide,” Ms Lui said.
“Four men are seen drag netting in the background, taking advantage of the crystal-clear waters on Ugar (Stephen Island).
“The photograph shows the beauty and vastness of the Great Barrier Reef in our neck of the woods.”
Ms Lui said the aim of the photo competition was to put a spotlight on what it’s like to live and work in rural and remote parts of Queensland.
“The competition was open to all state school students in Prep to Year 12,” Ms Lui said.
“I understand the judges were impressed with the quality of entries that came through, which captured the uniqueness of Queensland.
“The entries gave a glimpse of what life is like in different school communities across the state.”
Prizes for the winners include a Canon EOS 1300DKB digital SLR camera, GoPro Hero 6, Fujifilm Instax Mini 9 polaroid cameras, book vouchers and printed canvases - a prize pool worth almost $5,000.
The photos will be considered for use in recruitment marketing activities, promoting Queensland as a ‘teaching destination’ to local, interstate and international teacher audiences.
