Weipa boaties can now enjoy improved access to the water with the completion of a new walkway alongside the Evans Landing boat ramp.
Member for Cook Cynthia Lui said the walkway was great news for the local community.
“The Palaszczuk Government recognises just how important boating and fishing is for Far North Queenslanders,” she said.
“Living in such a beautiful part of the state and having access to the Embley River, I encourage locals to get out there and make the most of this new walkway.”
The 20-metre-long, grid-mesh walkway features handrails on both sides and is located on the right-hand side of the existing boat ramp.
It allows small boat owners to safely secure their vessels while returning their car to the carpark.
Weipa Town Authority deputy chairperson Stretch Noonan said the walkway would reduce overcrowding at the pontoon.
“With the new walkway, we have really improved beach access for small vessels,” Mr Noonan said.
“The overcrowding at the pontoon will now be reduced during periods of high boat activity.”
The $77,000 project was funded by the Palaszczuk Government’s Marine Infrastructure Fund. It was delivered by the Weipa Town Authority and local construction contractor Goodline.
