Member for Cook Cynthia Lui said the Palaszczuk Government is making progress to deliver the Newell Beach Boat Ramp.
Ms Lui said “I committed at the last election to deliver this boat ramp, and am pleased that progress is being made, many in our community are keen fishers and are looking forward to using the new facility.”
Transport and Main Roads have commissioned further hydrological modelling and environmental investigations to inform the final design of the boat ramp.
“Previous studies* have shown that to avoid the adverse impacts of dredging we need to build a causeway to a new boat ramp that accesses naturally deep water, this additional modelling work will ensure we get the best design possible.
The additional work will take approximately six months and will finalise the design of the project, pending environmental approval.
“I’m looking forward for tenders for this project to be opened in late 2019, with construction due to be completed in mid-2020”
