Local Member for Cook Cynthia Lui has congratulated Mount Molloy State School for their success at the 19th annual Showcase Awards for Excellence in Schools.
Cynthia Lui said the Showcase Awards recognise excellent teaching practice in state schools, as well as celebrate and reward the role of our teachers and principals.
“Each recipient demonstrated their contribution to improving educational outcomes for students through innovative programs, initiatives, leadership, partnerships and education support.”
“The Cook area winner has been recognised for the valuable contribution they make to education,” she said.
“We applaud their work and congratulate them for achieving recognition through the state’s most prestigious awards program for state school education.”
Mount Molloy State School won the RemServ Showcase Award for Excellence in Community Engagement for the Growing Our Community Project - where a humble vegetable patch has transformed the local community.
Since 2012, the patch has grown into a successful catering business, restaurant and market program. The entire community is encouraged to participate in Friday morning gardening classes, which has seen enrolments and attendance increase exponentially.
The awards were presented at an evening gala dinner at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre before 730 guests on the 26th October, the day Queensland celebrates World Teachers’ Day.
“The Showcase Awards shared more than $540,000 in development grants amongst the state and regional award recipients,” Ms Lui said.
“These grants support schools to deliver current education programs, as well as encourage the development of new programs and initiatives to support further opportunities for students.”
“The Mount Molloy State School can be incredibly proud of their achievements and the positive impact they’re having in their local community, as well as the state.”
The Showcase Awards organisers received more than 120 submissions reaching more than 80,000 students across Queensland.
The event’s sponsors included Education Queensland International, Griffith University, Network Ten, RemServ, QSuper, QUT, Queensland Teachers’ Union, Teachers Health, Teachers Mutual Bank, and the University of Southern Queensland.
A list of statewide winners is available at www.showcase.education.qld.gov.au.
