Bike riders to get an easy ride from grant funding
Member for Cook Cynthia Lui says local bike riders can benefit from the Palaszczuk Government’s latest grant funding for bicycle infrastructure.
“Local Governments are being invited to apply for grants for projects to support safer cycling and that is great news for the Cook electorate,” Ms Lui said.
“More than $18 million in grant funding has been committed to local governments for cycling projects across the state in 2018-19, including 20 projects in regional Queensland and now councils with an endorsed Principal Cycle Network Plan are being encouraged to apply for new funding.
“The Palaszczuk Government is accelerating delivery of the Principal Cycle Network across the state as a part of the Queensland Cycling Strategy 2017-2027 to ensure there are safe and convenient options for cyclists in all parts of the state.”
Ms Lui said projects would be funded on a 50-50 basis and councils had until 21 December to apply.
“For the first time councils are able to apply for funding to plan bicycle infrastructure on their highest priority routes.
“The Palaszczuk Government is pro-cycling because we know, on average, every dollar we invest in bicycle infrastructure will return nearly five dollars in economic benefit through improved health outcomes, reduced traffic congestion, and lower transport costs.
“Since 2006, grants have been awarded to more than 530 bicycle infrastructure projects as a part of the program.”
